The PreTox System is a surface preparation designed to be used in conjunction with mechanical or chemical methods of paint removal for the purpose of generating non-hazardous waste. PreTox uses EPA Best Demonstrated Available Technology to stabilize the waste generated during the removal process.
PreTox 2000 Fast Dry is an easy-to-use overcoating applied prior to coating removal operations. PreTox 2000 Fast Dry is then removed with the underlying coating.
PreTox 2000 Demolition is applied to a building or component prior to demolition. PreTox 2000 Demolition is left in place throughout removal for non-hazardous disposal.
PreTox 7000 Paint Stripper is a safe, non-caustic chemical paint remover designed to remove multiple layers of lead-based paint safely, usually in one application. The resulting residue will be non-hazardous for disposal.
PreTox 8000 Paint Stripper Blast Enhancer is a safe, non-caustic chemical paint remover designed to remove multiple layers of lead-based paint safely, usually in one application. The resulting residue will be non-hazardous for disposal.
When applied prior to the removal of a coating and before generating a waste, PreTox is not considered a treatment by current RCRA definition.
PreTox can be applied by any number of acceptable paint application methods. Methods would include spraying, brushing, rolling or troweling.
You would use a PreTox product for the purpose of generating a waste that is non-hazardous, therefore avoiding high disposal costs and laborious manifesting, and reducing long term CERCLA liability.
PreTox chemically reacts with heavy metals present in coatings and prevents them from leaching by using chemical stabilization and fixation.
PreTox uses a combination of chemicals known to stabilize heavy metals in waste and which are listed as Best Demonstrated Available Technology by the EPA.
PreTox products are easy to use and more cost effective. Additionally, PreTox is compatible with all forms of paint removal.
PreTox 2000 Fast Dry has been specially formulated so that no additional dust is created during coatings removal procedures. For assistance with the most effective
abatement requirements, please contact NexTec.
PreTox does not remove the lead present in waste; it prevents the lead from leaching and contaminating ground water.
Currently, PreTox has only been tested with lead. Please call NexTec for the latest test data on other heavy metals and consultation on the most cost effective ways of
dealing with heavy metal coating wastes.
Testing has shown that the use of PreTox will have no adverse effect on the life cycle of any new coating applied. Test results are available to support this fact.
